SCAN Health Plan is a not-for-profit
organization focused exclusively on helping make
life better for seniors in Southern California. For thirty
years SCAN has demonstrated a unique passion for
finding innovative ways to enhance seniors’ ability to
manage their own health and continue to control
how and where they live.
-
SCAN currently serves over 100,000 residents
in Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino,
Riverside, San Diego, Kern, and Ventura
counties. SCAN provides Medicare benefits, plus
other benefits that seniors need as they age.
-
SCAN is a not-for-profit health plan founded
by seniors for seniors and has no shareholders
or investors. This commitment allows the plan
to dedicate its resources to designing benefits
and services that seniors need to age with
dignity and respect.
-
SCAN has an outstanding network of more
than 135 hospitals and 14,000 local
neighborhood physicians.
-
SCAN dedicates many resources to caring
for the fastest-growing segment of the senior
population – the frail and chronically ill.
To date, SCAN has helped more than
50,000 seniors delay or avoid placement
in nursing homes.
-
SCAN manages one of the largest and most
successful Multi-Purpose Senior Service
Projects in California, providing communitybased,

While keeping its focus on serving seniors
in its own communities, SCAN Health Plan is
committed to becoming a national leader in
geriatric health management. Toward that end:
-
SCAN’s leaders welcome the opportunity
to share experiences and assist other
organizations around the country to better
understand and provide value to the
complex health care needs of seniors.
-
SCAN sponsors a Geriatric Advisory Board
that brings together a group of the nation’s
foremost geriatric, clinical and health policy
experts to help guide the health plan in its
offering of geriatric health management
programs to seniors.
-
SCAN advocates strongly on both the state
and national levels, promoting public policy
that supports seniors’ changing and
multifaceted health care and lifestyle needs.
-
SCAN is the only health plan in the country
that offers geriatric-focused Continuing
Medical Education (CME) credits to
physicians in the communities it serves.
